Last week was a very full one. I had in fact gotten home later than I usually would and hadn’t seen my little chairman go to bed; I literally had to carry him into his car seat sleeping and get home and lay him on his bed still very asleep. I missed him.I am glad we had this valentine weekend together and he sure was super excited too.
Back to last week, I got a call from someone I had contacted last year after reading her blog. She had called because she needed my services. Hmm,as always, I was excited, someone needed my service? I was very willing to help until she mentioned, you are a graphic artist right?
I am not, I am an online personal branding expert! I help professionals become visible online in other to attract the kind of opportunities they desire to have. And yes, some of the things I need to do this require that I acquire some graphics skill and an eye for detail. These are my tools of trade; I am over time mastering these skills but they are not me, they are tools of trade within my niche.
Although, I have decided to take on the project with this lady, her objectives for project were still very much within my core, online branding and this experience got me thinking.
How exactly do people see me?
What comes to their mind when they think of me?
What kind of value do they think I could offer?
In my last post,Visibility and You , I requested my readers to google themselves. It was obvious from some of the responses that not one person was content about the results and how they truly wished to be known for.
So today I would go further with the assignments.
I attended a taster event of some very prestigious coach and for a taster, it was awesome.Anyways not to digress, I learnt something really awesome, well a confirmation and explanation of a principle I have always known before now. The power of writing things down. It’s amazing how when we ask ourselves hard questions and force our brain pass the inertia, we can get the ball rolling.A full momentum.
So let’s gather momentum… download this free worksheet and push yourself to answer the questions in it. It would not be easy at first but you must push your brain to think and write this down. Also note that your mind would doubt you and your very essence and even skills that you have mastered would seem unimportant but I pray you, push and push very hard. Some of the answers may be aspirational, but write them down all the same.
These answers would form your goals and objectives, they would and should shape how you do your job as an expert in your chosen niche. This answers would help you make decisions on how you want to attain expert level even in as you begin to carve your niche. You would find yourself becoming more deliberate rather than reactive and strategic in your career.
Are you done?
Do you have some sort of clarity now?
Are willing to take on the challenge to make yourself stand out?
To be memorable?
Be a Legend?
It’s ok to be a little confused but now you know you are not where you were before.
You have moved an inch closer to the visible you, the expert that you are that is willing to be remembered offline and online.
One of the women I admire, Jaqueline Twillie said in her new book and I quote
“Your strategic roadmap to achieving success in your career should be based on your passion and a strong desire for achievement. The people you surround yourself with will be influential in shaping the opportunities you pursue”
Till my next post, be strategic; share this post with your friends and colleagues who you know needs this. The people you surround yourself with WILL be influential in shaping the opportunities you pursue.
Yours in finding herself
